Code of conduct for the speculative fiction work/shop
Co-creating an inclusive, curious, and generative community.
everything changes is committed to providing a welcoming environment for work/shop participants of all races, genders and gender-identities, trans statuses, sexual orientations, physical abilities, physical appearances, economic classes, and religions. This code of conduct serves to guide and support the creation of a respectful, generative, and sustainable community space.
This is a writing workshop, in which participants will be sharing their own writing and reading the writing of their peers. Participants acknowledge that creative writing, by its very nature, may include subjects which are challenging or offensive; and that the presence of such subjects in a writer’s work does not imply that the writer endorses them. That said, writing which promotes racism, sexism, misogyny or misogynoir, transphobia, xenophobia, ableism, or bigotry against any religion will not be tolerated.
Participants agree to:
- Arrive with an inclusive and curious spirit that is considerate of others, and actively seek to acknowledge and respect the boundaries of fellow participants.
- Take part equitably in group discussions, stepping in and stepping back as appropriate.
- Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behavior and speech. This includes, but is not limited to: deliberate intimidation or misgendering; stalking; sexual or discriminatory comments or jokes; and unwelcome sexual attention.
- Abide by the response guidelines and focus their responses on the writing itself, refraining from comments or criticism about their fellow writers.
- Treat all discussion within the group, as well as writing shared by other participants, as confidential.
- Only submit their own creative work, and refrain from using any so-called AI or large language models in the writing process. (The use of such tools will negate the purpose of the work/shop, which is to use writing as a way of thinking with and through your work.)
Reports of violations should be made to safety@everythingchanges.us or to the mobile number provided to participants in advance of the workshop.
If any participant violates this code of conduct, I reserve the right to take any lawful action I deem appropriate, including but not limited to warning the offender or removing the offender from the work/shop.
